How Fire Blankets Work

Fire blankets are made from a fire-resistant material and are designed to smother a fire.

They are ideal for use in a kitchen where there is a risk of fire from cooking, however a fire blanket can also be used to extinguish burning clothing.

A fire blanket is typically stored in an easily accessible bag that can be hung on the wall. Two pull-tabs located at the base of the bag allow easy deployment of the blanket.

To use a fire blanket, pull the two tabs located at the bottom of the bag.

Hold the handles in such a way as to protect your body and hands from the heat.

Approach the fire using the blanket as a shield and place the blanket over the fire.

Fire Blankets can be purchased through
the CFA's Fire Equipment Maintenance web site.
