Keysborough Urban Fire Brigade is always happy to welcome new members.


Brigade Training

The Brigade currently trains on Monday night and Sunday mornings from 10:00am. This may vary according to the level of training the member is participating in and the time of year.

New members are required to achieve their Minimum Skills before being able to turn out to fire and incidents.

Minimum Skills comprises of the following competencies:

  • 1.07 Personal Protection 1
  • 1.09 Map Reading 1
  • 1.12a Wildfire Behavior 1
  • 1.12b Wildfire Suppression 1
  • CFA074 Wildfire Communication

Other training within the Brigade may include:

  • Driving fire appliances
  • First Aid
  • Leadership and team building
  • Communications
  • Breathing Apparatus

Brigade Requirements

As well as turning out to fires and incidents, other roles or responsibilities may include:

  • Education to different at risk areas of the community through fire safety and awareness programs and advise on preventative measures of fire.
  • Fundraising for both the Brigade and organisations external to the Brigade such as Children's Hospital.
  • Displays and demonstrations at fetes, expos, shows and schools.

The Brigade has roles for members not wishing to be active, these include:

  • Operational support.
  • Community education.
  • Auxiliary.

The Brigade holds meetings on the first Monday of every month, with all members welcome to attend.


Junior Volunteer Development Program

The Brigade is currently running a Juniors Program for children aged 11 to 16 years that provides activities and training around firemanship, basic fire fighting skills, leadership and team building.

The Juniors Program within the Brigade is lead by up to four Junior Leaders and juniors who are assigned to Officer positions.

The Program enhances the Brigades family environment and provides young youth with the opportunity to develop skills in the lead up to becoming a volunteer fire fighter and in other areas of daily life.

Volunteer Commitment

The level of commitment that a volunteer offers the Brigade is their decision, whilst it is asked that a member attend all training, all other commitment is de termed by the member.
